Welcome to the CESL, the Center of English as a Second Language.

We are happy that you have chosen to study with us. Please take a few minutes to read the following before filling out the application form.

Part Time Status - Students with certain immigration statuses may study for a maximum of 85 hours in the Intensive English Program (IEP) or University Track (U-Track). Students enrolling for more than 85 hours of courses a session must enroll full-time and meet all admission eligibility requirements. All courses are for 8 weeks unless indicated. All tuition and fees must be paid with this application.

Placement Exam - After applying and registering, you will take the placement exam to determine your English proficiency level and the courses available to you. The placement exam must be completed before beginning classes. (If you want to enroll in Part-Time Graduate U-Track courses, you must submit an IELTS score of 5.0 or higher, or a TOEFL IBT score of 59 or higher. If you have not taken these tests, contact Ryan Shelby at shelby1@arizona.edu for more information about eligibility options.)

Refund Policy - Refunds are limited. For details, please see the refund policy on the web page: https://cesl.arizona.edu/discount-cancellation-and-refund-policies CESL gives no refunds except in documented, extenuating circumstances. All refunds must be approved by the program administrator. If payment was made by cash or check, refunds are processed through the University check request system. Note that this process can take 4-6 weeks. Credit card refunds are processed directly by CESL via credit back to the card that was used for payment. Classes canceled by CESL will be refunded in full with the original receipt.

Immunizations - All students born after 1956 and attending classes on the University of Arizona campus must include proof of TWO immunizations against each disease - measles, mumps and rubella MMR. If you do not have a record you must be re-immunized. See UA Campus Health: https://www.health.arizona.edu/immunization-requirements or University of Arizona Campus Health. Please include documentation at the time of registration.

Immigration - Applicants who apply for CESL part-time classes must reside in the U.S. International applicants entering the U.S. with the intent to study must apply for the full-time Intensive English Program and obtain a F-1 student visa.
